Job Description

The Staff Accountant participates in month-end close process and applies accounting principles that include work that is analytical, creative, evaluative and advisory in nature and that requires an understanding of both accounting theory and practice.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Participates in activities related to the monthly financial close process including the accurate and timely preparation of journal entries to assist the assurance the Company's financial statements are properly presented in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles ("GAAP").

  • Performs monthly detailed analysis of balance sheet and income statement accounts.
  • Facilitates the timely research and resolution of balance sheet and income statement issues and questions.
  • Maintains the daily cash position schedule, prepares bank account reconciliations, and communicates cash positions to Treasury.
  • Prepares supporting schedules for the Company's reporting packages.
  • Maintains amortization schedules for prepaid assets and analyzes expensed transactions to ensure proper capitalization of assets.
  • Interprets and analyzes amortization tables to record capital lease entries.
  • Prepares audit support schedules.
  • Maintains Fixed Asset sub ledger and roll forward schedules with reconciliations to the general ledger.
  • Assists with the physical tracking of capitalized assets.
  • Imports and assures the proper recording of payroll journal entries.
  • Assists with accounts payable vendor maintenance and 1099 preparation.
  • Maintains regular communication with department heads to ensure accuracy of income statement and balance sheet accounts.
  • Assists with special projects as assigned.

  • Good knowledge of GAAP.
  • Proficiency with Excel and Accounting Software.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Experience with general ledger accounting (i.e., above the transactional functions of A/P, A/R, etc.).
  • Exchanges non-routine information using tact and persuasion as appropriate.
  • Involvement with process improvement.
  • High level of professionalism.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and follow written and verbal instructions

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business with an emphasis in Accounting.
  • Minimum 3 years relevant work experience.
