Best Way To Job Network: Be A Volunteer!

Happy New Year Everyone!

PinkSlipMixers.com is expected to have more and more guests to our events (unfortunately).  With the economy getting tougher and more lay off are happening, it looks like we will be hosting events of hundreds of job seekers a week.

On a positive note, over the last week (even during the holidays) employers have been calling me asking if they can show up to our event because there ARE still jobs out there.  If you go to the site, click on “Network”, then “Member Profiles”, then filter by “Group Q&A” using “Are you a Job Seeker or Talent Recruiter” and finally choose “Talent Recruiter” to see all the companies hiring.

Many of these Talent Recruiters have immediate paying jobs ready to hire you.

Because the events will get bigger, I’m looking for volunteers to help out.  This would be great for you because as a volunteer, you get to network with everyone in the room and get to know them personally.  Best of all, the other guests get to know you and are more willing to help you out to find a job.  Its all about paying it forward.

Here are what we need:

1) Greeter #1: You will greet people when the come to the sign in table and create name badges.  You are the first person they will hand shake with.

2) Greeter #2: After the guests sign in, you will give them a tour of how the events work.  You will explain that each table has an industry assigned to it and that their networking should begin there.

3) Wingperson: You will find out what people do and connect them with people you think they will benefit from.  Since we will have a projector with Twitter Feeds, you will explain to people how that will work.  I will have pre-made cards to explain how it works so dont worry if you are unfamiliar with Twitter.  You will also be enforcing the rule “No MLM or Network Marketing” phishing.  If you find a recruiting MLM company, politely tell them that we are designing a program for them and it is more important that people find jobs at this event than an opportunity.  We should have a MLM event ready for them in February, but our PinkSlipMixer is not appropriate for their opportunity.

All in all, you as a volunteer will have a great time and your networking will be very successful because people like people who help them.

If you are interested, please send me an email or call me at 310-406-7992.

Happy New Years and lets find jobs for one another.

See you at the mixer,

Edwin Duterte

I'd also be interested at volunteering as Greeter #2 or possibly Wingperson for events in the LA area.  Feel free to contact me at john.bixby.2008@anderson.ucla.edu.

Cheers.

Thats awesome!

If you can do this as a favor:

1) When you register to the events, place in the comments section that you plan on volunteering as either a greeter or a wingman.  That way you will make people feel comfortable before the event and will look out for you.

2) Arrive at the event at least 30 minutes before the event so we can get ready to welcome everyone.

Thanks for volunteering and I'm sure everyone will appreciate your efforts.

Question??? If you are older, is it harder to get a job cause of your age? Some say yes

Dont question yourself if you are old or young.  If you are good at what you do then feel confident that you can get the job you are qualified for.

If you are questioning whether hiring managers have a preference to find someone with energy or no energy, a positive person or negative person, proactive or inactive, then the answers are obvious.  Rethink your question and make the appropriate changes.

Good luck with the job search.

Are you needing volunteers for this Monday night?
