How to job search network at events and online.

I just sent this blast:

Hello,

Over the weekend I have talked to several people either in person or on the phone, from Santa Monica to the SF Bay Area to the Mid-West States.  I guess I’ve become the expert of being unemployed.  It seems apparent that people from all over the country are experienceing “job search fatigue” and how to go about finding a new career.

My advice is to use as many tools as possible to uncover any thing out there.  Networking seems to be the best way to search.  Here are a few news articles that give you a few pointers:

Another way to search is to have others search for you.  I recommend using sites like Twitter.com and Facebook.com to ask your friends to post on their accounts that you are looking for a job.  They might know someone who knows someone at a company that fits your criteria.

Try this:

On Facebook, email your friends and tell them that you are looking for “this type of job”.  Then ask them to post on their “status update” that you are looking for that job and to contact you.  For reciprocity, you will meet other “job seekers” and you should do the same for them by posting their job search needs.

On Twitter, do the same but have your contacts identify you by adding the ”@” symbol before your twitter alias.  Here are a few made-up example of what you can do: ”@dananner is looking for a job where she can use her IT & blogging experience – can u help?”  or ”@daviladraws is looking for a creative media job. Find his work at http://tomatotv.net/”

My point is that you can use both live networking events and free online tools to help you find something.  The more friends and contacts you make, the better chance you can find a job.

Good luck and hope you can join me for my “Tea Talk and Coffee Chat” and the weekly “PinkSlipMixers”.

What is twitter and how can it help?  I need any kind of legal writing, research job, any editing, web-based, telecommute or traditional legal secretary job, just not reception/heavy phones.  Anywhere in LA County, but preferably near the 10.  Willing to relocate within the County.

I am trying to build my own business while I look for a job.  If anyone is a parent with a pending custody or dependency case, please check out my site at:

http://www.parentadvocate.org

The services I offer are on the "services" tab.  I can also help people get public benefits, even if they have been denied.  I work on a sliding scale, am looking for sustenance, and an opportunity to serve, not fame or fortune.  If I get to the point where I make enough to owe income taxes, I will convert to a 5013(c) and pay myself a sustenance salary and publish the non-profit's budget on the site, no secrets.  Also no affiliations.

hi Abby

Happy Holiday

Twitter is an online microblogging tool whereby people will follow what you are doing now.  In the "Twitterverse", people will follow you because you are interesting, a person of influence or simply because they like what you say.

You, as a job seeker, should find and follow people who "Tweet" or microblog about your industry.  If you find anything of interest in their post, respond by using the "@" before their twitter alias.  Most seasoned Twitter users actively search who is responding to their Tweets and appreciates the acknowledgement.

Hopefully they will also reply back to you using the "@" symbol, thereby increasing your vibility to their "followers".

When you meet other job seekers you find that have twitter accounts, "pay it forward" by posting what your new friend's are looking for.  Hopefully someone in your network will have something for them.

Just like any networking in the real world, you will develop a reporte with people.  When you build a trusting relationship, they will want to help you.  In your case, hopefully they will help you find work.

Twitter and Facebook is just a tool.  They are not the only tools out there, but used in conjunction with all your other real life and online searching it can help you out greatly.

Good luck and if you have any other questions, you can call me at 310-406-7992, meet me one-on-one for my Tea Talk/Coffee Chat meetings or at one of our events.

On the job sites I mention you could also have them send all the jobs that you are interesting in to your email address, is free, I have that now, also they can send some helpful hint on what do for interview, what to say and not what to say, what to wear

I've found that helping others is the best networking I've ever done.  I created a simple spreadsheet called the Watchlyst to help me do this.  It is available as a free download for anyone who wants to build real long term relationships.  Go to:  http://www.spinstrategy.com/free_downloads.html
