Instructions to the PinkSlipMixers.com "Social Networking Activity"

I just sent this blast:

My previous email generated a lot of questions of how tonight’s Social Networking Activity is going to work.  Before I give you the instructions, I want to give you a basic idea behind the activity.  First off, the event is designed so that you the seasoned professional effectively network with another seasoned professional who can help you find work and visa versa.  To add to that, it is important that that other person tells other people what you are looking for to maximize his/her social capital.  The idea is to have a way for that person’s social circle to know YOU.


We are going to make that happen IF you follow these instructions:



  1. Sign up to a Twitter.com account and link your phone number to your account.

  2. Go to www.twitter.com/pinkslipped and “follow” this account

  3. Know your LinkedIn.com account name and add it to your twitter website field.


When you are at the event and when you meet someone, you are going to ask that person what their twitter account name is.  Then you will ask what their career goals are.  Then ask what their linked in account name is.  Then you will text message Twitter using your cell phone to 40404.  In the message you will type ”@NameOfPerson is looking for _ job.  Can you help him. #pinkslipmixer.com”  That message will be posted onto your twitter.com micro blog.  Hopefully you will have everyone in the room Tweeting out your job request.


If you can get everyone in the room to “Tweet” out for you, then way more people will be looking for a job for you than is in the room.


After the mixer, add that person to your twitter following and to your facebook friends list.


I know this is a bit confusing, but it will all make sense at the mixer tonight.


Please tell your friends about this mixer because it will be like no other networking event you’ve ever been to.


Remember, the mixer starts at 6:30 PM and will be at Wokcano Restaurant located at 1413 5th Street in Santa Monica.  Happy Hour Price Specials last until 7 PM and it is quite ok to get there before the event.

Hi, 

I remember reading somewhere that it would be a good idea to bring resumes for someone to look them over.  Was I imagining this?

Hi Andrew,

Yes, Karyn Dobbie, one of our professional resume writers was available to assist for a 5 minute resume critique during the mixer.  I had a "resumes here" folder on the sign in table.  You can contact her directly and she would be happy to set up an appt with you.  We may do a "resume clinic / career development" seminar in the future which might be beneficial to you to attend.
